The Statue of Liberty built by Gustave Eiffel (yes the guy who built the eiffel tower) was a gift from France to the USA to symbolize their friendship after the American Revolution. Dedicated to the U.S in 1886 the statue has become a symbol of freedom in the United States. Standing at 305 feet (93m) tall it resides on Liberty island and is home to over 4 million visitors each year.

The Statue of Liberty is a welcome symbol for everyone: returning Americans, visitors, and immigrants. It is located on Liberty Island, southeast of Manhattan. It has a copper coating that covers an iron skeleton. The goddess holds in her left hand a plaque with the inscription “JULY IV MDCCLXXVI”, ie July 4, 1776, the date when she was declared independent of the United States of America. The Statue of Liberty was France’s gift to America. It was built in 1886 and remains a famous symbol of freedom.
