Times Square also known as the “Heart of the World” is home to over 460,000 visitors daily. Originally called Longacre Square the name switch came in 1904 when the New York Times moved headquarters to One Times Square(where the ball drop happens).Located between West 42nd and West 47th street it is arguably New York’s most important and most popular landmark.
Walking to Times Square from Grand Central is rather easy and quick. Only about a ten minute walk and you get to see Bryant park on the way. The walk however did make me pretty hungry. So by the time I got there I decided to grab a quick bite at McDonald’s in Times Square. They are a rather busy fast food joint so if you get there around dinner time just know that there is going to be a hell of a wait for a Big Mac.
McDonald’s is one of the many stores/restaurants in Times Square. There is everything from American Eagle and Uniqlo to Fridays and the Hard Rock Cafe. You could probably spend a whole day just going in and out of stores if you wanted to.
Key Places where I personally like to spend a lot of money on useless things are Disney,M&M’s World and Lids(I really like hats).
Times Square is also home to Broadway. Broadway is the theatre capital of the world.Broadway has over 13 million guests a year and makes a billion or more yearly. Even if theatre might not be your thing, watching a Broadway show is akin to watching a live movie and is usally very funny and entertaining.
My favorite part of Times Square is Duffy Square the little area where there is a statue of a bald guy(Father Duffy) and the famous red steps. I love going to the red steps and sitting down and looking at the various unique and ethnically diverse people that come to visit.
This is probably the most iconic landmark you can and will come across while visiting this beautiful city.
